What is creative nonfiction?

Creative nonfiction blends the best of two worlds: True stories written in fictional form.

Lee Gutkind, founder of Creative Nonfiction (CNF) magazine, defines it as “true stories well told.”

Stories shine when elements of fiction are used, like descriptive imagery, figurative language, plot, and character details.

Examples of these books, like the ones here, are books I’ve enjoyed and loved reading because they were written and edited well.

I believe well-written prose and honest reflections on life captivate readers on any subject and inspire them to live differently. (An excellent, more in-depth description of creative nonfiction can be found here.)

You’re the only one who can give this world your tactile, touchable details from your experience. These are the types of stories I love to read, reread, and especially, edit.

Creative nonfiction topics / What I edit

Topics and types of books I edit in the creative-nonfiction genre include (but are not limited to):

  • Personal Nonfiction (Memoirs)

  • Traveler & Explorer Biographies

  • Crafts & Hobbies (Stories about and from artists and artisans about anything handmade, homemade, and creative)

  • Christian Living (Encouraging, life-changing stories about faith)

  • Home & Garden (Plant-care and gardening, home life, and inspiring family stories)

Send me a message and tell me what you’re writing about. I love stories that encourage, inspire, or teach a skill. If you need guidance from a nonfiction editor, I’m happy to help.
