The Editing Cardigan // Editing Services

At The Editing Cardigan, storytelling meets refinement. Your manuscript will be copy edited with meticulous care, ensuring your book aligns with The Chicago Manual of Style and is ready for submission.

See below for specific editorial options.

  • The Copy Edit

The Copy Edit aligns your manuscript to industry standards. Beyond grammar and punctuation fixes, a copy edit ensures your writing is clear, cohesive, and correct. I look for all the nitpicky items required for the Chicago Manual of Style, but I also make sure your writing flows, is concise, and that your key information is clear.

A few items I check when editing:

    · Title page, Contents page, and chapter formatting

    · Commas, apostrophes, dashes, spaces, quotation marks

    · Hyphenation, capitalization, symbols, and numbers

    · Consistent and correct usage of names, acronyms, and places

    · Repetition or ambiguity, offering helpful suggestions that maintain your voice and style

And so much more. My goal is to make your book as consistent, cohesive, and correct as possible. A copy edit service includes two full passes over your manuscript.

As a copy editor, I will give you helpful feedback so you can submit clean, crisp, error-free copy. I am certified and ready to help you take your book to the next step in the publishing process.

  • The Line Edit

The Line Edit is an in-depth copyedit, addressing your text line by line.

    A line edit includes:

    · Deeper editing input and changes to your text vs. simply cleaning up the mechanics for you. I make more than two passes over the text as I build more time into my schedule to interact with your manuscript (2+ weeks, and 2+ passes)

    · Useful suggestions regarding inconsistencies or logical issues found in your manuscript and how to improve them

    · Adjusting sentence- and paragraph-level issues, and addressing stylistic choices, such as word choice and tone

    · Suggestions for organizing paragraphs and chapters, as well as ideas on extras: recipes, knitting patterns, worksheets, etc

And more. It’s always exciting to make sure every little component is in its proper place so that your book is at its best. Any questions?
